Moving house or relocating your business often comes with the common question - should I…
Top Tips for Your Shrewsbury Move
Congratulations! You’ve found a new home and you’re ready to make the change. Now what? Now comes the house move. It may seem like a daunting task as most of us don’t really like packing, and don’t know where to start. Luckily, Homemaster Relocations, Shrewsbury’s and Shropshire’s leading removals company, have made a handy checklist that will make the move easier and help you get organised for your big move.
1. Choose your least used room and start there
It can be difficult to know where to begin in the home when you want to start packing. The kitchen is out, because that’s constantly in use, same for the bathroom and you can hardly choose between the children’s rooms. So where? Think of the room you use least and start there. Sometimes this is the spare room or garage but having made a start it will give you a boost and you can probably get it finished quickly. Sometimes you’ll find boxes packed already (Christmas decorations/spare bedding) and it’ll make you think you have one less thing to do.
2. Get rid of anything unused or unwanted
When you’re moving, it’s a great time to get rid of things that aren’t in use. Get the whole family involved – anything that hasn’t been worn in a year or two goes in the bin or to charity. Worn out sport clothes and shoes – throw them out! There is no point in hoarding as you will just be dragging these things to the next house where they’ll remain unused. Check through your kitchenware and decide if you really want to keep that chipped plate in your new home. If you want to make some spare cash you can pitch up at a car boot sale or your local charity shop will be happy to take pre-loved items.
3. Designate a necessities box
Get one of the kids to help mark out a box in colourful letters and designate this the necessities box. This is the box that you’ll need straight away at the new house, so make sure that it’s accessible. Place a screwdriver, the kettle, some mugs, teabags and toilet paper in there and you’ll be very thankful when you reach your new home!
4. Call in the troops!
Make your move more fun by calling up your friends and getting them to help! You might think it’s a bit of an ask by most people have handled a move at some point and will be happy to pitch in for some tea and biscuits. It can be an excuse for a catch-up. Put the kids in a safe place with some toys and crayons and get down to packing and wrapping whilst bursting the bubble wrap!
You can delegate different tasks to your different friends (some people LOVE lists and organising!) so you can make everyone happy and make yourself feel better in the process!
